Many gamblers believe that their luck or misfortune can come from different situations, or the way the players or their environment will act on a given scenario. Gamblers are arguably the most superstitious people on the planet and they will do anything to increase their chances of winning. It ranges from the bizarre to the mundane. Whether it’s carrying a lucky charm or doing some sort of odd ritual before or during playing sessions, they will try different things for Lady Luck to smile on them. These superstitions, they believe, can have a strong influence on them.

The fact of the matter is almost every gambler, no matter how rational or logical he is, believes in some sort of superstition, one that they might not even be aware of.

A lot of gamblers actually believe that they can have an edge in their game by practicing strange superstitious rituals. While there are gamblers who have created their own set of superstitious beliefs, there those who share a common set that many gamblers practice. Here are a few of those common superstitious beliefs:

There are gamblers believe that it is unlucky to enter a casino through the main entrance. This first started years ago when the MGM Grand in Las Vegas was patterned to the MGM film studios and the main entrance to the hotel and casino building was through the mouth of the large MGM lion. They consider it a double curse to walk into the mouth of the beast.

It is also taboo to count your money while you are playing. It’s also one of the common beliefs that brings bad luck to casino players.

Another is singing or whistling while gambling. They say that if someone is whistling or singing past the graveyard, they are trying to be in good spirits in difficult times so this has probably carried over into believing that this shouldn’t be done while gambling.

According to Asian superstition, Lady Luck brings good fortune to those who wear red clothing. Although, there are many who have their own favorite color that they believe is lucky every time it is worn when gambling.

The list goes on: carrying a four leaf clover, a rabbit’s foot, a horseshoe or a lucky item of clothing will bring good luck. Good luck also comes knocking at your door if you blow on the dice before you roll them, stack your gambling chips neatly, and one of the simplest and most common – crossing your fingers.

Even if we don’t admit it, we have a few superstitions we believe in while gambling. As long as you don’t let it control you, believing in something that can bring good fortune can be favorable. If you feel lucky you will be in high spirits and have an enjoyable gambling experience.
